Novel told as the autobiography of a spy (mouche) working for the Venetian police who meets not only all kinds of criminals but also sorcerers and alchemists on his way through life. One of the more successfull works of the prolific chevalier de Mouhy (1701-1784), an English translation was published under the title that quite sums it up: "The busy-Body; or, the adventures of Monsieur Bigand, a man infinitely inquisitive and enterprizing, even to rashness; Which Unhappy Faculties, nevertheless, instead of ruining, raised him from the Lowest Obscurity, to a most Splendid Fortune. Interspersed with several humourous stories?".
